After reading texts about the sale of Manhattan, students were asked to state their claim and record their position on a whole class chart. After discussing these texts, the students realized that the Algonquian and the Dutch colonists had different perspectives on the sale. In order to state a claim, students had to evaluate the event from multiple points of view.
