We Are Many, We Are One
The fourth grade classes read the book One, by Kathryn Otoshi and discussed the book’s theme. One teaches us to take a stand for others who are being teased or bullied. Sometimes it takes just ONE voice to make every ONE count.
Who is the ONE who has made a difference in your life?
How will you be the ONE to make a difference in someone else’s life?
At P.S. 221 we strive to stand up and stand together. We may be many, but we truly are ONE. Please take a moment to read our tributes to parents, staff and friends or our aspirations for how we can make a difference!

The Important Things About Class 4-206
Class 4-206 read The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown. We examined the author’s word choice and repetition and were inspired to write. We then broke out into partnerships to interview one another to find out the important things about our partner. Finally, we crafted a piece about our partner using a repeated line just like our mentor author.

What's Your Superpower?
Class 4-206 is super in so many ways! For our very first writing task as fourth graders we showed off our super paragraph writing skills. After reviewing the key elements of all strong paragraphs, we rose to the challenge and organized a concise paragraph that was sure to include a topic sentence, multiple details, and a closing sentence. For this first piece we used our super editing skills to focus in on capital letters. We created and used our MINTS chart to help ourselves seek out the places those capital letters belong.
Effective Group Members
We worked together to brainstorm what we must do to be effective group members. After all group activities this month we are reflecting on how effective we are as individuals and as a group. We are also making plans to help ourselves grow!
What Qualities Do You Have to Share with the World?
Class 4-206 realizes that we have some amazing qualities to share with the world. We filled our thinking maps with adjectives that describe our personalities and nouns that shared factual information.
Gallery Walk Consensograms
The students in Class 4-206 spent their first few days getting to know each other. After deciding on the perfect symbol to represent themselves, students answered each survey question on the wall. They then spent time reviewing and analyzing the data. This was a fun and engaging way to conduct a ‘Get to Know You’ survey!
Good Listeners
An important goal that we will work on all year is becoming a better listener. We kicked off the school year by working in groups to think about and understand what it means to be 'A Whole Body' Listener!
